Every african government claims they care about “brain drain” but they are not proactive in instituting real and lasting solutions to the problem, except maybe drool over the remittances people send back. This article highlights some practical and long term solutions to the problem. Two points you immediately notice:
(i) All the countries trying the solutions are all Asian, and there is not a single African country
(ii) The end result is real knowledge transfer
Another point, if our researchers and academicians and professionals are world class( as seems to be the case;- else they would not find positions in the west) with real world solutions, and if the western institutions and corporations need their expertise, does not the law of supply and demand dictate that they will be sought wherever they are, and they need not move to the west? The Indian experience has proven that this is indeed the case.
