Is not the solution for tribalism “easy” to deal with?
If the Kikuyu do not feel comfortable being in the same country with the Luo, and vice versa, why must they be made to be? If the kalenjin wants to be in his own country, for God’s sake, why force them to live with the Kikuyu? If the luo believe everyone should speak dholuo, why not let them have their own country where they can speak to their fill? If the Bukusu loves his culture, why make him abandon it? After all, we know how Kenya (And the rest of Africa) came to be.
And if indeed the problem with Africa’s systems not working (my strong belief), despite the great resources and manpower, is due to this non sense of “my people”, versus “them”, that leads to incompetent people being asked to manage systems that are way beyond their heads, why not break the country into the “natural” countries? Surely the history of the rest of the world is in plain sight for us to see and learn from.
They will not be economically viable, you say. Good. Then they will see the need to form federations or unions, based on agreements and work together toward goals that work for them. Or perish.
One may say what is needed is a dictator who has a good vision for the country( i.e. a benevolent individual), who can for instance eradicate the different cultures and institute a single language (say swahili), BUT, is this good? And, how long will you wait for such a “messiah” to found? One can never know how an individual turns out to be.
There are those who say what is needed is educating the people. Two problems:(i) This will take forever (ii) This is not a fool-proof solution. Kenya, especially Central kenya, has very high number of educated people, but somehow Central Kenya still sees Kenya differently than most of the other groups. In any case, most whites are educated people, but that does not stop most of them being racist.
Issues such as racism, tribalism, whatever, are age hold and are in the human heart and will not disappear magically. But there are measures that can be used to reduce them if a society is to function for the common good.
We are failing to learn from history, folks. The British devided to counquer. Lets us now divide to unite.
